FAQ

Egypt does not issue apostilles because it hasn’t signed The Hague Apostille Convention. This means that it is not possible to obtain an Egyptian apostille – but you can apply for an equivalent. In Egypt, this is called legalization and the application process is explained in the tables above.

Yes, but only if your documents have been certified as a “true copy” by a notary or a commissioner of oaths. Plain photocopies cannot be legalized.

The entire process can take at least 4 weeks.

Legalizing a personal Canadian document involves having it first authenticated by Global Affairs Canada in Ottawa. Legalizing a commercial document also requires authentication by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce or Board of Trade prior to sending it to the Embassy of Egypt.

Global Affairs Canada requires 10 business days from the day the request is delivered to the office. One must allow a further 5 business days for mailing time.

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce has an online portal for certifying business documents. Multi-page and high-volume requests can be processed the same day provided they are submitted online no later than 3:00PM.

The Egypt Consulate generally processes personal documents within a short time of receiving them. Business documents are legalized within 2 business days.

That said, since there is more than one entity involved, it is possible that the legalization process will take longer than indicated.

At Document Authentication Canada we work closely with the Egypt Embassy in Canada and Global Affairs Canada to facilitate and expedite the legalization process. Get in touch with our expert team on XXX XXX for assistance

The Egypt Embassy generally applies a legalization stamp on the back of your document. However, the Embassy of Egypt may attach these where it deems best. The Egypt Embassy uses both ink stamps and stickers when legalizing documents.

Immigration and Citizenship

The Embassy of Egypt and the Egypt Consulate can produce the following documents:

  • Immigration permit
  • Dual citizenship
  • Military exemption
  • Entry/exit record

An immigration permit allows you to move from Egypt to Canada. If you’re employed in Egypt, you have to produce a letter from your employer stating your resignation from work, along with other official documents.

Applying for dual citizenship means that you would be a national of two countries at the same time. Along with official documents, you need to submit this form

Conscription is compulsory in Egypt for males from 19 to 34 years old. You may apply for military exemption if you are :

  • holding a dual citizenship
  • the sole host of a divorced or widowed mother
  • the only son of your father
  • a student

Obtaining a military number costs 15 CAD. You’ll need the military number to apply for exemption. Then, the fee varies depending on why you’re applying for exemption – ranging from another 15 to 20 CAD.

Obtaining an entry/exit record can be necessary to ensure your complete travel history. Along with your passport, you need to handwrite a request for the record where you outline the duration and your name, phone number or email, and address. The fee is 60 CAD and the process takes 8-16 weeks.

Visas

The Embassy and Consulate of Egypt issue visas for Canadians and visas for Canadian Travel Document holders.

Egypt Embassy Canada visa

You can apply for your visa within 60 days from the travel date. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of travel. These are the offered visas:

  • 45 CAD – Single Entry Tourist
  • 105 CAD – Multiple Entry Tourist
  • 145 CAD – Single Entry Business
  • 200 CAD – Multiple Entry Business

You can only apply in person or by mail. It takes 3-5 business days to process the request if sent by mail.

Canadian Travel Document holders may also apply for a visa. You must have at least 6 months of validity from the date of travel. The delivery of the visa would be between 60 days before travel date, to 1 week before travel date.

Other Services

Other Services offered by the Embassy and Consulate of Egypt in Canada are:

  • Consular Certificate
  • Drivers’ License Translation
  • Police Records and Fingerprinting

A consular certificate is issued by the Egyptian consular officer and certifies facts known to the consular officer, for example a no impediment to marriage. This service costs 60 CAD.

A drivers’ license translation costs 80 CAD. You’ll need to provide your passport and driver’s license, and a photocopy of each.

To obtain a police record check, it will cost 40 CAD. You need to handwrite a request and include a copy of your passport. The Embassy of Egypt will send you an application. You must go get a fingerprint from the police station, fill in the form, and send it back.
